Hello and welcome to my portfolio for the Troy University Interpreter Training Program. My educational journey thus far includes being homeschooled through high school and obtaining my high school diploma. I began college as a freshman in high school at Yuba Community College taking classes concurrently. I took many courses here mainly focusing on general education and music classes. It was here that I first fell in love with American Sign Language. While at Yuba Community College I took American Sign Language 1-3 and Fingerspelling. I was at Yuba Community College until after I graduated from Sutter Beauty college in 2016. In fall of 2015 I was accepted into Yuba Community College's Cosmetology program through Sutter Beauty College, and in August 2016 I graduated from Cosmetology school. Later that year I took my licensing test and passed. After that, I spent a year at American River College taking classes in American Sign Language and French and working as a Hairstylist. Later, in 2017, I got married and moved. This move caused me to transfer to Troy University Online and begin my journey to becoming an American Sign Language Interpreter. Before I could enter the Interpreter Training Program I had a few classes that I had to take, mainly American Sign Language 4 and in the fall of 2018, I entered into the Interpreter Training Program. My goals for the program are to graduate with a Bachelors of Science in American Sign Language Interpreting by 2021. I will then take the National Interpreter Certification test through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. After passing both portions of the exam, I will then work as an interpreter hopefully in the secondary education system as a staff interpreter until I am retired then I will likely continue part-time work as an independent interpreter.
